Compact and stylish, true to the Krups brand. It performs well, though not flawlessly, especially at high altitudes—something I anticipated.
After my first use, I was surprised to learn that you need less water to boil more eggs. This turned out to be beneficial since water boils at a lower temperature at 7,000 feet. Using the recommended water amount for hard-boiled eggs resulted in medium eggs instead. I’m still adjusting the water levels to achieve the hard yolk I prefer. The positive aspect is that the reduced water for more eggs allows room in the measuring cup to add extra water for longer boiling times at high altitudes (unless you’re boiling just one egg, which is rare). I’ll provide an update once I determine the right amount.
Another issue at high altitude is that some egg contents escape through the tiny hole suggested for venting. While some eggs only lose a bit of white, others can lose a significant amount of both white and yolk. It can get messy! I plan to try boiling without making the holes and see if it still works—hoping the eggs don’t explode.
On a positive note, boiled eggs peel remarkably easier with this method, which was an unexpected benefit.
A minor drawback is that the unit doesn’t automatically shut off when finished, even when the water is nearly gone and the loud timer is buzzing.
In summary, this product is likely ideal for those at lower elevations where water boils closer to the intended 212ºF (100ºC).

After trying two highly rated and cheaper egg cookers from Amazon that both failed within days due to a malfunctioning buzzer, we decided to give the Krups a try. We were pleasantly surprised by its compact design and so far, the buzzer is functioning well. While it has a capacity for 6 eggs compared to others that hold 7, we typically need fewer than 4 eggs at a time, so the difference doesn’t matter much to us. Its compact size is a bonus, making it easy to fit on our counter.

I hesitated for a few months before deciding to buy a dedicated egg cooker, but at just $30, I figured it wouldn’t be a huge loss, even on my tight budget, if it didn’t live up to the hype. Let me tell you, this device is fantastic!
First off, I’ve only used it for making hard-boiled eggs, and that’s not likely to change.
The cooker is surprisingly compact—smaller than I anticipated. I use large eggs, which fit perfectly, but I’m not sure if jumbo ones would work as well. I always stick to large eggs, and they come out flawlessly every time.
The setup consists of three parts: the heating element at the bottom, a plastic tray in the middle that holds the eggs above the heat, and a lid on top. It operates by boiling water to steam the eggs.
Included is a small measuring tube, which serves two purposes: it measures the water needed for cooking (the amount varies based on how many eggs you’re making) and has a pin at the end for piercing the eggs. The instructions suggest piercing the pointier end of the egg, but I’ve found it works better to pierce the rounder, wider end.
There are two settings on the cooker: one for cooking and one for keeping warm. I’ve never used the warm setting since I run my eggs under cold water as soon as they’re done. When cooking, the device buzzes loudly to indicate when the eggs are ready, alerting you that the water has evaporated.
After cooking, I remove the lid, grab the cooker by the handle and a bit of the side (it’s hot, but manageable), and run cold water over the eggs for a couple of minutes. They may still be warm, but I either eat them right away or pop them in the fridge.
Cleaning is a breeze. The heating element may get a bit dirty, but a quick wipe with a sponge usually does the trick. I rinse out the egg holder and lid and let everything dry. They look good as new and function perfectly.
Now, about the eggs: whether they are new or old, they peel beautifully! It’s commonly known that older eggs peel easier, but I haven’t encountered any issues with peeling, even with fresh eggs.
And most importantly, they are cooked to perfection every single time. Just be sure to cool them adequately after cooking to prevent them from continuing to cook in their residual heat.
As for a few minor downsides that don’t detract from the product at all:
1) I’ve had maybe two eggs with weak shells that crumbled instead of piercing properly, but I could sense that beforehand.
2) Out of many eggs, just one has given me trouble with peeling. It’s rare, though.
3) The device buzzes loudly when done but doesn’t turn off, so you need to be present to prevent overcooking.
Overall, I highly recommend this egg cooker!
