For my ideal recipe, I use two egg whites, 1/8 cup of cottage cheese, 1/8 cup of shredded cheese (I prefer a Colby Jack mix), and 1 tablespoon of bacon bits. Just whisk everything together, pour it into the cups, and wait for the deliciousness to happen. I haven’t timed it, but it seems to cook fairly quickly—maybe around 8 minutes? I usually start my KitchenAid toaster oven with an English muffin right after I turn on the egg bites, and the toaster oven finishes just before the egg bites are done.

I also experimented with the poached version, and while I eventually figured out how to prepare it to my preference, the texture was unappealing due to the shape. It didn’t work for me since I don’t enjoy oven-baked egg muffins, but it might suit your taste. On the plus side, it was a quick process with easy cleanup, though the unit tended to scorch every time. Perhaps more water would help, but it seems like the machine doesn’t shut off until all the water has evaporated. In any case, it was a disappointment for me, but it could be a hit for you!

I enjoy poaching eggs or making Egg Bite-style recipes with liquid eggs (I particularly like the Southwestern flavor combined with some pre-cooked, thawed sausage crumbles from the freezer).
I set a timer on my watch for 6-7 minutes, which is just the right amount of time while I get ready in the morning. The ease of use and consistent results are fantastic. You can achieve your preferred egg doneness—runny or hard yolks—by adjusting the water level in the reservoir and monitoring cook times from 4 to 6 minutes. I prefer using 100 ml of water for a soft-set yolk in about 6-7 minutes. The water heats up quickly, so make sure to add the water and eggs before plugging it in.
