   I used to wonder why anyone would purchase a cooker when boiling eggs seemed so simple. However, this cooker is incredibly easy to clean—just a quick wipe with vinegar keeps it spotless! The plug serves as the power switch, so make sure to set up your eggs and water before plugging it in. The button on the front silences the beeper, which alerts you when the water has boiled dry and the eggs are finished cooking. Although the unit automatically turns off when done, the beeper won’t stop until you press the button. Now I understand why people love this cooker—it’s so convenient to use, eliminating the need for a pot of boiling water that could easily dry out without an alarm if you get distracted!

   I bought this omelette pan on a whim to avoid grabbing breakfast bagels every time I went to the hospital for dialysis. The size and shape are perfect for making an egg patty that fits right in a bagel.

   Here’s how I made my breakfast:

   • Measured water according to the cup.
   • Used 2 extra-large eggs, beaten with a dash of pepper.
   • Once cooked, I removed the egg ‘patty’ from heat and placed it on a paper towel to blot it dry.
   • I then put it in an unbuttered everything bagel half.
   • Added 1 slice of mild real cheddar and 2 strips of microwaved bacon, each torn in half.
   • Topped it with the other half of the bagel and wrapped it tightly in cling wrap to help it melt from the residual heat.

   Living about 40m above sea level, we have non-staining water from an 810ft drilled well. I’m planning to experiment with hard, soft, and poached eggs in a week or so. For now, I’m enjoying my breakfast sandwiches!

   My husband and I are absolutely in love with this egg maker! We’ve actually bought it five times as gifts for friends and family. It’s the best kitchen gadget ever! It makes perfect hard-boiled eggs, poached eggs, omelets, and more! The possibilities are endless, and it’s so easy to use. The instructions are clear and even include some recipes. It’s compact, doesn’t take up much counter space, and is easy to clean, with most parts being dishwasher safe. We rely on it at least four times a week, and everyone we’ve gifted it to is just as enthusiastic! It’s a fantastic addition to any kitchen and makes for a perfect gift. Highly recommend!

   After my initial 3-star review, the company’s support team reached out and offered me an upgraded water measuring cup, requesting an update after I tried it out. Here’s my experience…

   I’ve now cooked three dozen eggs (ranging from 2 to 6 at a time) with the new measuring cup, and the results have significantly improved, thanks to my enhanced technique.

   The new cup features a highly visible black scale that is much easier to read compared to the nearly invisible markings on the original version. I believe the inconsistent results I had before were due to the difficulty in reading the marks on the first cup.

   I also appreciate the shell piercing point on the cup; while I’m not sure how effective it is, it certainly seems like a thoughtful addition.

   This egg cooker relies entirely on the timed evaporation of water, a well-established design method. The more water you use, the longer the eggs will cook.
   1) You pour the desired amount of water into the boiler (hot plate) at the bottom of the unit, and the cycle begins when you press the start button.
   2) The water boils and turns into steam at a steady 212º F/100ºC, cooking the eggs gently and effectively.
   3) Once all the water has evaporated, the temperature of the heating plate rises above 100ºC, triggering the bi-metallic switch to turn off the heater.

   I would recommend the cooker now, but with one key step:
   • Immediately after the timer clicks, transfer the eggs to a pan of cold water to halt the cooking process quickly.

   If you don’t cool the eggs promptly, their internal temperature will continue to rise, which can lead to overcooked eggs. This can cause the yolk to turn green, dry out, and the eggs to become rubbery. Keep in mind that the hot plate remains warm after the switch turns off, which can further cook the eggs as it cools down.

   I suspect this is why some of my eggs ended up overcooked and rubbery; it wasn’t about the amount of water but rather leaving them in the cooker too long.

   A note for the Maxi-Matic manufacturer: The clicking sound when the switch turns off is too quiet to hear unless you’re nearby. A louder beep when cooking is finished would be a great improvement so that it can be heard throughout the kitchen, allowing for timely transfer of the eggs to cool water.

   I initially thought this cute cooker would save me time and hassle when making my favorite hard-boiled eggs. While it does to some extent, there are some drawbacks. I’ve experimented with different water amounts and the number of eggs cooked at once. The process of making hard-boiled eggs is certainly simpler, but the results can be denser and tougher, with some yolks developing a greenish tint and whites appearing yellower than my tried-and-true method.

   I haven’t tried the scrambled eggs or omelet functions, as I don’t eat those, but it could be a nice way to prepare those dishes without using oil or butter.

   Ultimately, I prefer the results from my traditional method, so I’ve returned to it. I often cook a dozen eggs at once to have some on hand for quick breakfasts and salads. Now, I’ll be donating this appliance to the thrift store.

   [**My traditional method: Bring eggs to a boil from cold water (5 minutes), remove from heat immediately and let sit for 15 minutes, then pour out the hot water and replace it with cold water (5 to 10 minutes) to stop the cooking.     I’m truly impressed by this little gadget! I received it on Saturday, July 20th, and couldn’t wait to try it out. I made 7 hard-boiled eggs using the water level indicated on the measuring cup, and they turned out perfectly cooked—exactly how I like them. I assume the medium and soft settings will work just as well. I also attempted to poach an egg and followed the instructions by spraying the plastic container with PAM non-stick oil. I added a cube of butter to the container and placed it on top of the egg rack. I emphasize this because the instructions clearly state that the poaching and omelette trays will melt if set on the metal heating pad. This is a downside to the product, as it’s easy to overlook such instructions, which could pose a fire hazard. It would have been better if the manufacturer had used metal for these trays, but I understand that it might increase the product’s cost. Overall, I was thrilled with my poached egg (shaped like a half-moon—lol) and highly recommend this product. It’s quick, simple, and easy to clean. Definitely worth the price and super convenient!
